worry-free wanderings by steph

What if, for one week... someone else took care of everything?

You’ve spent years planning.

Coordinating.

Taking care of everyone else.

Making the reservations.

Keeping track of the details.

This time…

You don’t have to.

come join us

Welcome to Tranquilo Portugal 2027.

A thoughtfully curated small-group journey through Portugal designed for people who are tired of being the one who figures everything out… and finally experience travel the way it was meant to feel.

tranquilo portugal

This isn't just a vacation.

This isn’t permission to travel

It’s permission to stop performing.

To stop managing.

To stop making decisions for everyone else.

To simply exist somewhere beautiful…

and remember who you are when nobody needs anything from you.

Permission to wake up each morning knowing someone else has already thought through every detail.

For one week…

Your only job is to show up.

Take a deep breath.

And say yes to experiences that you’ll remember long after you get home.
That’s why I created Tranquilo Portugal.

Why This Trip. Why Now. Why Me.

I built the trip I always wished existed.

“Fica tranquilo.” It means: ease up, breathe, you’ve got this. Portugal whispers it everywhere.

I’m Steph Holmes, an experienced Travel Advisor, certified project manager (PMP), and the owner of Worry-Free Wanderings. I’m also a queer woman married to another woman and I have spent more time than I’d like to admit quietly wondering if a space was built for someone like me.

I got tired of travel that felt like it was designed for someone else. I got tired of watching the people in my life, brilliant, generous, endlessly capable women and couples, keep saying “someday” to the trip that would finally fill them back up. Someday when the kids are older. Someday when work slows down. Someday when it feels less selfish.

So I built the trip.

Eight days in Portugal. Two stunning locations. Six curated experiences woven between real, intentional breathing room. A group of 24 people, solo travelers, couples, friends, family, queer, straight, and everything in between, who will eat together, laugh together, stomp grapes together, and probably cry a little on the last night in the best possible way. And me and my wife, there with you the entire time. You don’t figure anything out. You just show up.

This trip is for solo women. For couples. For best friends. Straight, gay, queer, and everything in between. For the person who has been putting themselves last for so long that they’ve almost forgotten what first feels like. This is a trip for you.

you'll atually exhale here

Calm without being boring. Beautiful without being overwhelming. The kind of place that resets you before you even realize it’s happening. Welcoming, English-friendly, and one of the most LGBTQ+ safe destinations in Europe.

you'll know everyone's name

Two free days built in, one at the beach, one in the valley. No 6am wake-up calls. No 12 sights in a day. This is not a “see everything” itinerary. This is a “feel everything” itinerary.

you won't need another vacation after this vacation

24 spots. That’s it. Small enough that you’ll know everyone’s name by Day 2 and every experience is actually ours, not shared with 200 strangers. Small enough to feel like a chosen family trip, not a group tour.

What We're Creating Together

Six anchor experiences.
Two free days. One unforgettable week.

This isn’t a brochure list. These are the moments you’ll still be talking about a year from now.

"Working with Steph truly removed a boatload of worry from my travel brain. I can't recommend her enough; it truly made my vacation much less stressful and enjoyable!"

— C. Dickson, Facebook review

I didn’t build this trip to see as much of Portugal as possible.

I built it to help you experience Portugal differently.

That means…

Fewer hotel changes.

Longer meals.

Slow mornings.

Meaningful conversations.

Beautiful places without rushing through them.

Time to wander.

Time to laugh.

Time to simply exist somewhere beautiful.

Because I believe travel should leave you feeling lighter than when you arrived.

September 18–25, 2027

The Tranquilo Itinerary

Two hotels. Two check-ins. Eight days of Portugal at the pace it deserves.

Day 1 - Saturday, Sept 18

take a deep breath...you've made it ✈️

For the first time in a long time, there’s nowhere you need to be except right here.

We’ll welcome you to Portugal with a relaxed evening, a beautiful dinner, and the first of many conversations that begin with, “Where are you from?” and end with, “I can’t believe we just met.”

By the end of the evening, you’ll already know you made the right decision.

You'll leave today feeling welcomed.

Day 2 - Sunday, Sept 19

The day you finally stop checking your phone.

Something shifts today. Maybe it’s the salty ocean air. Maybe it’s laughing with your new travel companions as dolphins swim nearby. Or maybe it’s realizing you haven’t thought about work, errands, or the never-ending to-do list in hours.

This is the day many people finally exhale.

You'll leave today feeling lighter.

Day 3 - Monday, Sept 20

A day with absolutely nothing you have to do.

This day exists on purpose. No rushing. No alarms. No pressure to keep up. Sleep in. Read by the pool. Walk into town. Take a nap. Or spend the afternoon talking with new friends over coffee.

Sometimes the most memorable moments happen when nothing is scheduled at all. Some more ideas…

You'll leave today feeling rested.

Day 4 - Tuesday, Sept 21

The journey becomes part of the adventure.

Today isn’t just about getting from one place to another.

We’ll wind our way through Portugal, stopping at one of its storybook castles before continuing into the breathtaking Douro Valley.

By the time you arrive at our vineyard retreat, you’ll understand why we saved this part of the journey for last.

It feels like stepping into another world.

You'll leave today feeling inspired.

Day 5 - Wednesday, Sept 22

The night Portugal gets under your skin.

Today we’ll slow down and settle into the rhythm of the Douro Valley.

As the sun sets, we’ll gather for an unforgettable evening of food, music, and tradition.

Even if you don’t understand a single Portuguese word…

You’ll understand exactly what Fado is trying to say.

It’s one of those experiences that stays with you long after you get home.

You'll leave today feeling connected to Portugal.

Day 6 - Thursday, Sept 23

Space to wander... or simply stay still.

By now, Portugal probably feels a little familiar. Maybe you’ll spend the day exploring. Maybe you’ll curl up with a book overlooking the vineyards. Maybe you’ll linger over lunch because nobody’s watching the clock.

Whatever today looks like for you…It’s exactly the right way to spend it.

You'll leave today feeling recharged.

Day 7 - Friday, Sept 24

The day strangers become lifelong friends.

This is the day I think you’ll be talking about years from now.

You’ll laugh until your cheeks hurt. You’ll stomp grapes. Cook together. Share stories around the table. And somewhere in between…Our photographer will quietly capture the moments that no one thinks to stage… the real smiles, the spontaneous laughter, and the friendships that have grown over the course of the week.

These won’t just be pictures from Portugal.

They’ll be reminders of how you felt while you were here.

You'll leave today feeling deeply connected to the people around you.

Day 8 - Saturday, Sept 25

The hardest part is saying goodbye. ✈️

It’s amazing how much can change in one week.

You’ll leave with beautiful photos.

Wonderful memories.

And, if I had to guess…

A few new friends you’ll already be talking about traveling with again.

We’ll take care of getting you to the airport.

All you have to do is start dreaming about where we’ll go next.

You'll leave today knowing this won't be your last adventure.

just imagine...

Maybe this trip is exactly what you've been looking for...

If you’ve ever caught yourself saying…

“I’d love to go to Europe someday…”

but then immediately started thinking about all the reasons it felt too complicated…

This trip was built for you.

If you’re tired of always being the planner…

This trip was built for you.

If you’re craving meaningful connection instead of giant tour buses…

This trip was built for you.

If you want someone else to handle the logistics so you can finally enjoy the journey…

This trip was built for you.

Here's what you DON'T have to worry about.

❌ Which hotels are worth staying at.

❌ How to get from place to place.

❌ Which tours are actually worth your time.

❌ Making restaurant reservations.

❌ Navigating trains, buses, or rental cars.

❌ Wondering if you’re missing the best experiences.

❌ Feeling awkward because you’re traveling alone.

I’ve already done that part.

Your only job…

Is to pack your suitcase.

When you get home...

You won’t come home saying…

“We saw six castles.”

You’ll come home saying…

“I forgot what it felt like to wake up without rushing.”

“I laughed harder than I have in years.”

“I finally did something just for me.”

“I made friends I never would have met.”

“I remembered that I’m allowed to take up space too.”

That’s the souvenir.

Not the wine.

Not the photos.

That.

Your Investment in Yourself

I know this is a significant investment.

And I also know something else.

So many people spend years putting themselves at the bottom of the list.

Waiting for the “perfect time.”

Waiting until work slows down.

Waiting until life feels less busy.

Waiting until someone else is ready.

If you’ve been waiting…

Maybe this is your sign that you don’t have to wait anymore.

What you’re investing in isn’t just a trip.

It’s the chance to spend one week feeling like someone finally took care of you.

$6506

per person double occupancy

$7003

When you see the value built into this week, the price stops feeling big and starts feeling obvious.

Meet Your Hostesses

The humans who have your back the entire trip.

We’re not tour guides. We’re not just planners. We’re the people you’ll be laughing with on the dolphin boat and crying happy tears with at the farewell dinner. We’ll be there for all of it.

Steph Holmes

Owner · Travel Advisor · PMP · Your Guide

I am a detail-obsessed, spreadsheet-loving, project management professional who spent years running complex projects before I realized my real superpower was making sure that people, specifically people who are tired of carrying everything themselves, finally get to put their bags down and exhale.

I started Worry-Free Wanderings because I believe travel is one of the most powerful things a person can do for themselves, and I got frustrated watching incredible people talk themselves out of it. I’m a queer woman, married to my wife Holly, and I know firsthand what it means to want a space where you can just exist without explaining yourself. That’s what I’m building for this group.

  • I will remember everyone’s favorite drink
  • I will secretly carry snacks
  • I will check on everyone without making it obvious
  • I have never met a spreadsheet I didn’t love or a trip I didn’t overplan. Both work in your favor.
  • I fly out of Des Moines. I understand completely what it means to connect through O’Hare at 6am. You are in good hands.
  • I will 100% be the one suggesting we try the thing nobody else wants to try. And I will be right about it. (Probably.)
  • I have never NOT teared up at a farewell dinner. This trip will be no different.

Holly Holmes

Co-Host · Plant Whisperer · Creative Director · The Other Half

Holly is the calm, creative counterbalance to my spreadsheet-loving, itinerary-building brain. She is the person quietly noticing the thing everyone else missed, coming up with the brilliant idea, and asking the common-sense question that saves us from making something unnecessarily complicated.

She is adventurous, curious, and always willing to try something new, provided the plan passes a reasonable safety inspection first. She loves plants, creative projects, beautiful details, and finding clever solutions to everyday problems. Holly often dreams up the idea, and I figure out how to make it happen. It is one of the many reasons we make such a great team.

As co-host, Holly will be helping create the relaxed, welcoming atmosphere of the trip. She may not greet you with a giant hug, but she will absolutely help you figure out how something works, notice when you need a quiet minute, and offer the kind of practical advice that makes everyone say, “Why didn’t we think of that?”

  • Holly is friendly, but not especially huggy. A smile, wave, or cocktail toast will do nicely.
  • She has excellent common sense and very little patience for avoidable chaos.
  • She is adventurous, but not “ignore every warning sign” adventurous.
  • She can keep a plant alive, which already makes her more qualified than many of us.
  • She brings the ideas. I bring the spreadsheets. Together, we make things happen.

Dear Future Portugal Traveler...

Maybe you’ve been quietly watching this trip come together.

Maybe you’ve voted in the polls.

Commented on the posts.

Wondered if this might be something you could actually do.

If that’s you…

I want you to know something.

I didn’t create this trip for people who travel internationally every year.

I created it for the person who’s been saying…

“Someday.”

The person who’s tired of putting themselves last.

The person who wants to remember what it feels like to wake up excited about what’s ahead.

The person who’s ready to be taken care of for a change.

If that’s you…

I’d love to save you a seat.

FAQS

You've got questions? We have answers!

Here are some answers to frequently asked questions by travelers in the past.

You’ll want to grab a flight from the US on Friday September 17, so that you arrive on Saturday the 19th ready to go.

Yes! I will be happy to book your flights for $50 per person charge.

All deposits are non-refundable.

This is a very custom trip and most items within the itinerary are not refundable. Accidents happen and even a small accident that requires you to fly back to the US in an emergency can have devastating financial consequences. Having travel insurance ensures you protect yourself and your investment.

Of course! Let me know what you’re thinking and we can get you booked on extra excursions, tours, or classes for your free days or down time. Or you can always book things for yourself.

Of course! I have several ideas for extensions. A post trip extension in Azores Islands, for example.

As soon as you book, I’ll invite you into The Tranquilo Portugal Circle, our private Facebook community just for this group.

That’s when the trip really begins.

We’ll introduce ourselves, celebrate birthdays and milestones, share packing tips, answer questions, and watch the excitement build together over the next year.

I’ll share behind-the-scenes planning updates, hotel sneak peeks, local recommendations, and little surprises along the way. By the time we meet in Portugal, you’ll already recognize names, faces, and inside jokes.

Instead of walking into a room full of strangers, you’ll be greeting people you’ve already gotten to know.

By the second day, people are saving seats for each other at breakfast.

By the farewell dinner, it feels like you’ve been traveling with friends for years.

You won’t be joining someone else’s group… we’ll build our own together.
